Advent is a season of preparation, we hear that over and over again in the readings at this time
of year. But what does that mean? What does it look like to prepare the way for the Lord?
Preparation can feel like a very internal thing – gathering supplies, safeguarding our homes,
preparing our minds and our hearts. But what if we take that preparation outward? What if we
start preparing the way by taking care of each other the way Jesus taught us? By building a
more just and generous community, reaching out to those who need us, and those whose
voices are silenced by the wider world. What can we do this advent to make our preparation
outward and active? To Awake, and prepare the Way?
El Adviento es un tiempo de preparación, lo oímos una y otra vez en las lecturas de esta época del año.
Pero, ¿qué significa eso? ¿Qué significa preparar el camino al Señor?
La preparación puede parecer algo muy interno: reunir provisiones, proteger nuestros hogares, preparar nuestra mente y nuestro corazón. Pero, ¿y si llevamos esa preparación al exterior? ¿Y si empezamos a preparar el camino cuidándonos los unos a los otros como Jesús nos enseñó? Construyendo una comunidad más justa y generosa, tendiendo la mano a los que nos necesitan y a aquellos cuyas voces son silenciadas por el mundo. ¿Qué podemos hacer en este Adviento para que nuestra preparación hacia el exterior y activa? ¿Para despertar y preparar el Camino?
