Advent can turn our plans and preparations, our understandings and our expectations upside down. From the baby in today’s Gospel being named John and not Zechariah Junior, to the baby we await who is a King yet will be born in a manger, there are plenty of surprises and contradictions in this season of waiting and hope, and plenty left to learn. As we look back (and look ahead), which of God’s truths have we come to understand differently, more fully this Advent than ever before? Have we encountered anything unexpected along the way, like joy in the quietness, strength in gentleness, or power in kindness? How will we carry that with us to Christmas and beyond?
El Adviento puede poner patas arriba nuestros planes y preparativos, nuestra comprensión y nuestras expectativas. Desde el niño del Evangelio de hoy, que se llama Juan y no Zacarías hijo, hasta el niño que esperamos, que es Rey y nacerá en un pesebre, hay muchas sorpresas y contradicciones en este tiempo de espera y esperanza, y mucho que aprender. Al mirar hacia atrás (y hacia adelante), ¿cuál de las verdades de Dios hemos llegado a comprender de manera diferente, más plenamente que nunca en este Adviento? ¿Hemos encontrado algo inesperado en el camino, como la alegría en la quietud, la fuerza en la mansedumbre o el poder en la bondad? ¿Cómo lo llevaremos con nosotros hasta Navidad y más allá?
