Lenten Way of the Cross — Station 6

1. Though the Roman soldiers intended to mock Jesus, instead they revealed the divine truth: Jesus is the ultimate king, and the ultimate king is a king even of suffering. What do we expect Jesus’ kingship to look like? What does it actually look like?

1.  Aunque los soldados romanos pretendían burlarse de Jesús, en lugar de ello revelaron la verdad divina: Jesús es el rey supremo, y el rey supremo es un rey incluso del sufrimiento. ¿Cómo esperamos que sea el reino de Jesús? Cómo es en realidad?

2. Time after time in the gospels, Jesus tells us that if we want to follow him, we need to be like him, and if he has to suffer, we will also have to. The passion’s purpose is to transform suffering into glory, and nowhere is this symbolism made more clear than in the dual nature of the crown of thorns – glory constructed from pain. Is God calling you to share in his suffering so that you might also share in his crown?

2. Una y otra vez en los Evangelios, Jesús nos dice que si queremos seguirle, tenemos que ser como él, y que si él tiene que sufrir, nosotros también tendremos que hacerlo. El propósito de la pasión es transformar el sufrimiento en gloria, y en ninguna parte queda más claro este simbolismo que en la doble naturaleza de la corona de espinas: la gloria construida a partir del dolor. ¿Te está llamando Dios a compartir su sufrimiento para que tú también puedas compartir su corona? 

3.  Jesus does not protest or try to defend himself when he is mocked, because he knows the truth about who he is. During those times in our life when we are unjustly attacked, why do we feel the need to prove our worth to others? Will their false opinion change reality?

3. Jesús no protesta ni trata de defenderse cuando se burlan de él, porque sabe la verdad sobre quién es. En esos momentos de nuestra vida en que somos atacados injustamente, ¿por qué sentimos la necesidad de demostrar nuestra valía a los demás? ¿Su falsa opinión cambiará la realidad?
