Jesus often operated on the peripheries of society, and many times those on the peripheries actively sought him out. In this case, a Roman centurion, someone not even of the faith or practice, offers a spontaneous testament of such profound belief that even Jesus is impressed. Two thousand years later, this unnamed solder’s words of faith are embedded in the Church’s official liturgy and repeated by us every time mass is celebrated.
Jesús actuaba a menudo en la periferia de la sociedad, y muchas veces los de la periferia le buscaban activamente. En este caso, un centurión romano, alguien que ni siquiera pertenecía a la fe o a la práctica de la religión judía, ofrece un testamento espontáneo de una creencia tan profunda que incluso Jesús queda impresionado. Dos mil años después, las palabras de fe de este soldado anónimo están incorporadas a la liturgia oficial de la Iglesia y las repetimos cada vez que celebramos misa.
