I was once told that when someone asks for advice on a decision, you should choose for them. They will either agree with your choice, or they will tell you all the reasons why they disagree – because deep down, they know the answer already. Your job is simply to help them realize it.
Today, the scripture reading from Isaiah tells us this very thing. So often we go searching for the answer “out there”, forgetting that the Holy Spirit makes His home within us. He is always speaking, intimately and quietly, even when we drown out His voice with pressures, anxieties, and distractions. How often do we face the silence long enough to listen to the words laid deep in the foundations of our hearts?
Una vez me dijeron que cuando alguien te pide consejo sobre una decisión, debes elegir por él. O bien estará de acuerdo con tu elección, o bien te dirá todas las razones por las que no está de acuerdo, porque en el fondo ya conoce la respuesta. Tu trabajo consiste simplemente en ayudarles a darse cuenta de ello.
Hoy, la lectura bíblica de Isaías nos dice esto mismo. A menudo buscamos la respuesta “ahí fuera”, olvidando que el Espíritu Santo vive dentro de nosotros. Él siempre está hablando, íntima y silenciosamente, incluso cuando ahogamos su voz con presiones, ansiedades y distracciones. ¿Con qué frecuencia nos enfrentamos al silencio el tiempo suficiente para escuchar las palabras que están en lo más profundo de los cimientos de nuestro corazón?
