Forgiveness
Year 1 ( 2022 – 2023 )
Text:
Matthew 18:15-35
Summary:
Jesus teaches on church discipline. He commends Peter to forgive “seventy times seven” times. The parable of the unforgiving servant.
Prayer of Confession
Gracious God,
We come, once again, seeking your forgiveness and grace.
We come, again and again,
for we live in a broken and bruising world,
and too easily, we play along with it –
living by its rules, not yours.
Systems of injustice swarm around us
in which people are measured and scored:
richer and poorer, lighter skin and darker,
successful and not, valuable and not, visible and not,
worthy of forgiveness and not.
This is not your economy.
This is not the community you intend.
Forgive us when we play along by the world’s measures,
and miss out on your incalculable grace.
And forgive us, again and again,
when we seek after that grace,
but fail to share it with others.
Set us free to live in your economy,
where love flows freely and fully to all people.
