Sermon on the Mount I

Year 1  ( 2022 – 2023 )

Text:

Matthew 5:1-20

Summary:

Jesus teaches: Beatitudes, salt of the earth, let your light shine.

Call to Worship

Holy One,
You have called us the Salt of the earth –
challenging us to enhance the world
with the flavors of joy and justice,
hope and peace, courage and community.
Forgive us our blandness.
You have called us the Light of the world –
challenging us to live as beacons of hope amidst the shadows:
showing forth your color and creativity,
brightening the pathways that lead toward your kingdom,
pointing toward the glimmers of your glory
that forever shine amongst us.
Forgive us when we hide the Light you give.
Spice us up with the goodness of your Spirit.
Shine through us with your radiance.
Set us free from bitterness and bleakness,
that we may live as salt and light in this world.
