Covenant and Commandments
Year 1 ( 2022 – 2023 )
Text:
Exodus 19:3-7; 20:1-17
Summary:
God speaks to the newly liberated people through Moses, giving the Ten Commandments.
Prayer of Confession
Eternal God, you have created us and set us free,
that we might live as your people.
You are the One who brought the captives out of Egypt
and delivered them from oppression.
At the dawning of their freedom,
you spoke to them – giving them the gift of words
to lead them into healthy relationship
with you, with each other, and with their neighbors.
You implored the people to worship only you,
knowing how easily we create idols—
how quickly we get our priorities all wrong.
Help us to be honest with ourselves and with you.
Forgive us when we set anything or anyone else in your place.
Speak to us through these ancient words,
that we may live into the freedom you give.
