Unseen and unexpected. Two words that can describe today’s celebration of Pentecost, but also so many other facets of our faith and our lives. A little over a month ago, many of us were enthralled with the eclipse. When the sun became unseen in the middle of the day. The eclipse also happened to fall on the celebration of the Annunciation, when an angel unexpectedly visited Mary and told her she had been chosen to bear the child of God. And today, this unseen Spirit visits the apostles and unexpectedly gives them the ability to speak in tongues to proclaim the Good News. The apostles, Mary and each of us experienced wonder, awe and maybe even disappointment that our human minds could not fully understand what we were witnessing. But this is what our faith is built on. Wonder at God’s love for each of us. Awe at the ability of Jesus to die on the cross for each of us. The desire for each of us to know God so deeply that we wish we could have all the answers about our faith at our fingertips. As we end this Easter season, lean into the unseen and unexpected.

Invisible, nos guía con su amor y nos llama cuando canta”
Invisible e inesperado. Dos palabras que pueden describir la celebración de Pentecostés de hoy, pero también tantas otras facetas de nuestra fe y de nuestras vidas. Hace poco más de un mes, muchos nos quedamos embelesados con el eclipse. Cuando el sol dejó de verse en pleno día. El eclipse también coincidió con la celebración de la Anunciación, cuando un ángel visitó inesperadamente a María y le dijo que había sido elegida para dar a luz al hijo de Dios. Y hoy, este Espíritu invisible visita a los apóstoles y les da inesperadamente la capacidad de hablar en lenguas para proclamar la Buena Nueva. Los apóstoles, María y cada uno de nosotros experimentamos asombro, admiración y tal vez incluso decepción porque nuestras mentes humanas no podían comprender plenamente lo que estábamos presenciando. Pero en esto se basa nuestra fe. Asombro ante el amor de Dios por cada uno de nosotros. Asombro ante la capacidad de Jesús para morir en la cruz por cada uno de nosotros. El deseo de cada uno de nosotros de conocer a Dios tan profundamente que desearíamos tener todas las respuestas sobre nuestra fe al alcance de la mano. Al terminar este tiempo de Pascua, inclínate hacia lo invisible y lo inesperado.
