“[H]is clothes became dazzling white”
– Mark 9:3
In the annual Temptation/Transfiguration rhythm, it is easy to think that these are only different from each other, or that Transfiguration is only a preview of Easter. Yet, if you’ve been in the desert, you know it can be dazzling bright, paining your eyes. Perhaps that is why the disciples today are afraid, looking upon Jesus. There is also temptation today: to remain at this pinnacle experience. Many connections from this day are possible: the voice from the cloud; other garments of Jesus’ earthly life (swaddling clothes, the footwashing towel around his waist, burial garments); another hilltop—with a cross.

Transfiguration Prayer, David A deSilva
En el ritmo anual Tentación/Transfiguración, es fácil pensar que sólo son diferentes una de la otra, o que la Transfiguración es sólo un anticipo de la Pascua. Sin embargo, si has estado en el desierto, sabes que puede ser deslumbrantemente brillante, doloroso para los ojos. Tal vez por eso los discípulos hoy tienen miedo, mirando a Jesús. También hoy existe la tentación: quedarse en esta experiencia suprema. Hay muchas conexiones posibles en este día: la voz de la nube; otras vestiduras de la vida terrenal de Jesús (pañales, la toalla aal rededor de la cintura al lavar los pies de los discípulos, las vestiduras funerarias); una colina con una cruz.
