Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time • November 19, 2023

Wait for the Lord: be strong, take heart!”

The second reading today starts to ease us into the season of Advent that is approaching, reminding us that just when we feel like we are at peace and comfortable in our faith, that is precisely when the Lord will enter our lives and remind us that we can’t be comfortable. We are called to be uncomfortable people. Uncomfortable with war and violence. Uncomfortable with injustice. Uncomfortable with what we are called to do as disciples of Christ. But precisely in those times of discomfort, we are most closely connected to the Lord. Jesus’s ministry wasn’t easy or comfortable. But that was all part of God’s plan. Let us remember that in the most difficult times in our lives, that is where we can find God comforting us and granting us the strength to be disciples of Christ. Be strong, take heart!

La segunda lectura de hoy comienza a ayudarnos a entrar en la temporada de Adviento que se acerca, recordándonos que justo cuando nos sentimos en paz y cómodos en nuestra fe, es precisamente cuando el Señor entrará en nuestras vidas y nos recordará que No puedo estar cómodo. Estamos llamados a ser personas incómodas. Incómodo con la guerra y la violencia. Incómodo con la injusticia. Incómodos con lo que estamos llamados a hacer como discípulos de Cristo. Pero precisamente en esos momentos de malestar estamos más estrechamente conectados con el Señor. El ministerio de Jesús no fue fácil ni cómodo. Pero todo eso era parte del plan de Dios. Recordemos que en los momentos más difíciles de nuestras vidas, es ahí donde podemos encontrar a Dios consolándonos y concediéndonos la fuerza para ser discípulos de Cristo. ¡Sé fuerte, anímate!
