Beyond Safe Environment: Rethinking Power, Influence, and Accountability

As the last years and months have shown us, an understanding of the structures necessary for a truly safe environment is still emerging. Current policies do not adequately address behaviors or realities that create and enable the opportunities for abuse and manipulation. Join panelists Jena Thurow-Mountin, Jamie Manson, and Zack Stachowski for an honest conversation about these and other questions: How can we develop policies and best practices that address the root causes of these structures? How does our understanding of gender, power, and the mingling of ministry and celebrity contribute to these issues? How do we create a culture of safety in our communities? What resources exist to help us in these efforts? How do we create accountability?

This session was originally broadcast on Friday, July 17, 2020 as part of GIA Publications’ “Summer Series.” For more conversations, check out the series playlist on the GIA YouTube channel.
